Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, with a lot of them being set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was raised in Roswell New Mexico. However, he discovered love for Colorado. He eventually made his way to Aspen. Denver's iconic anthems for Colorado have inspired many people to move to the state. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame says that John Denver is unlike any other artist who embodies Colorado. Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its first member in 2011. Denver has become the image of Colorado for many people around the world. You meet people in other countries, like New Zealanders. They say "I come Colorado" and they say "I am from Colorado" and they instantly react by saying Oh John Denver. Brown clarified. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief career in folk groups, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff composed the tune for Johnny Cash but Denver recognized its potential when he first heard it. The song was recorded just a few weeks after the Washington D.C. performance.
